WP eStore Questions (F.A.Q)
If you have any questions please leave a comment below.
Thanks, that would be great!
@Terrence, Yes it does have a out of stock feature.
@Lewis, I have never played around with VAT so can’t give you an answer from the top of my head but I will do some research and find out an answer for you.
Hi,
Great plug in! I have a quick question.
I am based in the UK and, as a VAT regestered business, we charge VAT a 15% to customers in the EU.
Customers outside the EU do NOT pay any VAT.
In Paypal I can set up a 15% VAT rate for UK customers and a 0% VAT rate for US customers but this doesn’t seem tto have any affect on the plug in. i.e. no extra tax is applied when you checkout.
Is there any way that I can show prices excluding VAT then when the customer gets to the Paypal bit it adds the appropriate tax depending on the country they select they are from on paypal payment screen?
Many thanks, Lewis
WOW! That was amazingly fast, especially for a Saturday. Thanks so much!
Hi Robyn,
The instruction to test with PayPal sandbox can be found on this URL
https://www.tipsandtricks-hq.com/?p=1107
on that page do a search for the term “How to Test if Everything is Working Properly”
Let me know how you go.
Can I get instructions on how to test it with PayPal sandbox? I’m having trouble and I need to be able to test wtihout going nuts 🙂 Thanks!
@WordPress Pro, I am not quite sure I get your question… what are you trying to achieve? If you can explain a little bit more I will be able to give you a better answer.
Can I add a sign-up form to an autoresponder on a Thankyou page? How can I add an autoresponder to the plugin. I am using 1stshoppingcart and also aweber.
Thanks.
@Douglas, You are welcome 🙂 and thank you for the nice rundown of what to do if anyone decides to change the database table name.
@Jakob, just to give you an update… I have already implemented the shipping cost functionality in the version I am working on but before I release it I intend to add few more features… so expect to get a copy soon 🙂
Hi,
I would like the ability to sell digital products on my blog and it looks like this plugin will do that for me, but I also have several products I will be giving away via free download. Paypal requires you to actually list a price above $1 dollar.
Is there a plugin that is set up to do both? An online store maybe? Most plugins I’ve seen are only set up to work with PayPal, not credit cards and not free downloads. I’d like to do all of the above from the same page.
My blog is currently under construction, but you can check it out here:
http://www.ryanwilcox.org/
@admin: Thanks for including shipping costs in your next release 🙂 this will make your plugin outstanding. Right now it’s only “almost-outstanding” 😉
@admin
Sounds great!
Ruhul
Brilliant. A nice easy simple solution that works and performs as it should. Thank you for the personal !prompt! support helping getting the plug-in working.
For those interested, I took the trouble to change the default wordpress database prefixes from wp_ to something different for extra security measures. (Take the time to look over the suggested security measures off the home page here at tipsandtricks). As a result, once installed, I had a new table in my wordpress database (for the eStore) but instead of it being wp_eStore.tbl, my new database prefix was added. Lets say it became “nohack_wp_eStore.tbl. All I had to do was edit the instance of “wp_eStore.tbl” in the few files in the root of the plug-in and replace wp_eStore.tbl with nohack_wp_eStore.tbl. If you understand what and why I am telling you, you get it. What’s important is to realize that it’s that easy to make these minor edits to the plug-in files (maintain that bit of extra security) and the plug-in performs flawlessly.
Outstanding.
thank you
regards
Douglas Essery
@madG, Everytime you sell a product, you get an email with the details of the product (product id, name)… you should be able to work out which author’s product was sold and award him the commission.
@Jakob, The shipping calculation will be included in the next release of this plugin.
I read the plugin features and comments by others, and this plugin is promissing a lot. I have digital goods store that is powered by multiple authors/designers.My question, is there a way to have some sort of tracking of authors?…i mean i would like to know which autor’s product has been sold, so i can add the commission to that author and this way have some control over the sales management.
Thanks.
Hello,
I bought the eStore plugin and I am quite pleased with it except for one big major thing! 🙁
I tried the free Simple Paypal Shopping Cart plugin and loved the Shipping Costs option and I thought this plugin would do the same, because it both handles digital and non-digital products. But it turns out; it don’t 🙁
I’m building a shop with BOTH digital and non-digital products. The digital products should be delivered securely (which this plugin does really well). But I really want the non-digital products to also have the Shipping costs option – just like the free Simple Shopping Cart plugin.
Will this be included in a future update? Or is it already an option which I just missed? Hope to hear from you.
@Frosty, Nice to hear that you like the plugin. Yes I have plans to implement some stats/counters. Also I intend to expand the Plugin to have a customer database where all the records of which customer bought which product will be kept.
At the moment I am very busy implementing a WordPress Affiliate Platform that can be integrated with this Plugin so you as an admin can offer affiliate links to others who want to promote your products and get rewarded when a sale is made.
Really liking the plugin so far. Any plans on implementing a stats or counter for purchases?
thanks. Can’t wait to see what you can do!
I’m trying to work with zencart right now, but it’s so complex and my needs are pretty simple right now.
@Local Landing: can you tell me a little bit more about what you are doing to put encrypted links on your blog posts? My coding knowledge is pretty basic as well. My guess would be that you already have this plugin installed and you are using it to create the encrypted link. From there you are just adding that encrypted link to your posts. Is that correct?
By the way – admin, you have some great info on your site. Thanks for all of your hard work!
Awesome. Can’t wait to see what you can do. I set up the encrypted links made through the admin area of the settings and put them on the blog posts. It works pretty well, at least for getting the downloads accessible. But incorporating the cart options will be fantastic.
Maybe just have it ask for an email for free items to be sent to if they click checkout with a cart total of $.00. A form similar to what’s in the admin section of the settings would probably do the trick…
If I knew any kind of coding I’d give it a try, but it’s probably best left in the hands of experts anyway.
🙂
@Parrfunkel & Local Landing, thanks for your input. Now that I have a better understanding of the requirement I should be able to work something out. Bypassing PayPal is not an issue, I need a way to get the recipient’s email address though. Normally when the transaction goes through PayPal the plugin gets the email address from PayPal. I will work out a solution and let you guys know.
“But if you want something like… sending the visitor a download link for a free product after they submit their email address then let me know and I will try to come up with a solution.”
Sorry, now that I’m reading this more carefully… this would work for me!
Ditto what parrfunkel said. I would like it to still go through the plugin, minus the paypal process for tracking purposes, and also to get people used to the idea of buying off of our site through this process. We want to offer some free downloads that we can pass around that will have people using the cart features still.
If I can upload a file, generate a link, and use that say in a blog post about the free item, though, that will probably work fine. Then i can just link people to the post before they click the generated link to download. I’ll give that a shot.
I was thinking, though, that if the shopping cart had a total of $.00, then when they click the checkout with paypal button, it would just bypass paypal entirely and send the email with the links. Maybe a separate option for a redirect link that takes them to a thank you page for free items or something.
At any rate, still loving the plugin. 🙂
Thanks for the response. I think, although I could be wrong, that @local landing and I are looking for a similar feature.
I will be selling digital products on my site, which it sounds like this plugin will be great for. I also offer free downloads, but I’d like to be able to track and control the downloads. The downside to just having a download link is that it can be passed around without the user ever visiting your blog. This is what I’m trying to prevent.
If the user needs to “purchase” the download via the shopping cart, even though they pay nothing, I can hopefully control this issue. They then receive the encrypted link with time limit, which should prevent that unwanted use.
thanks!
@Parrfunkel, If you mean including free items with a purchased product then all your really have to do is package all the product in one zip file and use the URL of the zip file as the product download link. So when the buyer purchases the main product and gets the download link he gets all the freebies with it too. But if you want something like… sending the visitor a download link for a free product after they submit their email address then let me know and I will try to come up with a solution.
@Local Landing, I will look into the custom field in post option. Just to let you know… you can generate and send free encrypted links for any product to anyone using the “Admin Menu” of the wordpress eStore plugin. I am interested to listen to what type of solution you want regarding the free item though. If it’s a free item wouldn’t you just let them download the product directly from your site as you don’t really need to hide the link?
I’m wondering the same thing as “The Local Landing”. If there is a way to include a free product and bypass paypal on those items, I will gladly purchase. I have tried several plugins and none seem able to accomplish this correctly.
Is it possible to offer an item as a free download but still be able to use the link encryption system of the plugin? It wouldn’t need to go through PayPal, but having that link sent out as an automatic download would be great for Free Items as well…
We found this plugin right after we commented on the Shopping Cart plugin yesterday, and it’s exactly what we needed. So you’re awesome.
One idea for functionality we’d just like to throw out there: would it be possible to get a custom field in posts so that when we’re writing a post that is to have for-sale content, below the main post body somewhere there could be a field for item name, price, etc? Not sure if it’s possible, but would save the trip over to the add/edit options and make it easier for other authors on our site who are writing posts to add content for sale to them.
Just a thought. Thanks for the very, very, VERY awesome plugin. Well worth the buy for it’s usefulness and ease. Excellent work.
Thank you for your quick response. I look forward to receiving your email. Your help is much appreciated.
Cheers,
A
wow, quick reply 🙂
“i need one with just a bank transfer†means, instead of paypal, i want to put wire transfer form, or credit card, since pay pal payment its not really common use here
however, you said:
“Unfortunately at the moment this plugin only accept payment through PayPal”
the word ONLY that scares me 🙁
please update me when you have more payment options, its still top best even compare then the free version 🙂
N
@A, When you use the WordPress eStore plugin for a video on demand system and the encrypted URL redirects to the web page that contains the streaming videos, it will show the URL of the page in the browser’s address bar. Due to security reasons the browsers do not let you hide the URL of a webpage. Security reasons being someone making a page that looks exactly like your bank’s internet banking page then redirecting to that page and hiding the URL so the user doesn’t know it’s a fake address. I am sure you see the point.
But that doesn’t mean that there is no way around to it 🙂
You have a few options…
a) Hide the URL of the webpage containing the videos using Java script.
b) Mask URLs using frames.
c) Mask URL with Apache Mod rewrite by modifying your .htaccess file.
d) Use a PHP script that controls the access of the protected pages based on session (this is my favourite as this is a proper implementation). When the session expires going to the same URL will redirect to an access denied page.
I will email you with the script that will help you achieve what you want.
To answer the next question… the encrypted URL needs to point to the plugin directory so the plugin can decrypt the link and control (eg. verify the link hasn’t expired) the access to the restricted download/page.
@Nonesee, glad to hear that the wordpress eStore plugin interests you. I am not sure what you mean by “i need one with just a bank transfer”. Which payment processor do you mean that does “just bank transfer”?
Unfortunately at the moment this plugin only accept payment through PayPal. In the future I intend to make it work with Google Checkout though.
Hi there,
I’ve just purchased the e-Store plugin. It’s great, but I have a questions.
We are setting up a video on demand channel. The URL is encrypted in the email, but when we click through to view the full movie the full original URL is displayed. This way anyone can copy this, send this to his friends or watch it on and on.
The other thing I noticed, is that the encrypted URL always starts with:
http://domainname.com/wp-content/plugins/wp-cart-for-digital-products/download.php?file=xxxxxx
Is there a way of amending this so that it doesn’t include wp-content/plugins etc.?
I look forward to your reply.
Many thanks,
A
Does this plugin have a out of stock feature so I can limit the number time a particular digital product can be sold?
hi, im so interest with this, after checking on the other e-commerce plugin which waste my time 🙁 just to tweak it
i need a promnt answer if this plugin also accept other payment beside paypal?
i need one with just a bank transfer 🙂
is it too difficult?
N
When you use the WordPress eStore plugin you don’t have to worry about the file size because you only email an encrypted download link of the product then the buyer downloads it using that link.
@Richard, I will email you the latest version.
Hi
I have v1.4 – how do I download the latest version (1.6?) and do you have any version change documentation?
Thanks,
Hi Joe, I am pretty sure 1.6 is the latest version of this plugin (I have a few plugins that I actively manage so I get confused with the version numbers). I will check the code and let you know. I email all the customers when I release a major version of this plugin. I don’t like to spam email every two days with a one line code change.
Yes, it is possible to test the plugin without performing a transaction. The plugin can be used with PayPal Sandbox. I will email you with the instructions of how to do it.
Hi, I just bought your plugin and I would like to know if the 1.6 version I have (downloaded through a secure download link) is the latest one, and where can I download future updates.
Lastly, is it possible to test the plugin without performing a transaction? I am buying and selling through the same paypal account, and when buying paypal does not allow you to buy through the same paypal account as the seller.
Thanks,
Joe
Hello Ray, I am glad you like the plugin. Nothing feels better than having happy customers 🙂
Wonderful, I can’t believe how well this works, simple, elegant and what a price!
Works better than carts costing hundreds more. An honest man, a rarity these days.
thank you
I’m only beginning in this business and found that it’s easy to get overwhelmed with all the possible actions. Been learning a lot on this and need to thank you for your post. Had some good hints for me. I bookmarked your blog and will surely come back.
Thanks. I’ll try to sell my EDU DoFollow Blog Lists at http://www.internetzine.co.uk/edu-blogs with this plugins
Hi Charisma, Not quite sure what you mean by complimentary download link… can please explain a little bit more so I can give you a better answer? Thanks
This plugin looks good. Does it have the ability to send complimentary download links?
@Pyro, Your wordpress theme is showing the excerpt of each post in the front page and hence it can’t show the button. Please make sure your post is displaying the full article if you want the button to appear in the article on the front page.
